Getting started

Getting set up

Use Welcome and Setup to get NextAction ready in a few minutes.

Welcome

The first time you sign in, NextAction opens Welcome. It has everything you need on one page: a quick check of your profile names, how NextAction follows the five GTD steps, three habits that make it work, a five-minute tour, and what to expect during the Alpha. Nothing on it takes you away from the page except Go to Setup.

The five steps are numbered in the order they happen: Capture, Clarify, Organize, Reflect, Engage. The menu on the left groups the same places by where you use them, with Engage first because it is what you open most, so its order is different. Each step has a button that opens its place.

Setup

Setup suggests two first steps.

First, add your Areas and Contexts. Choose a starter list or type your own. You can also mix the two. For Contexts you can turn on the @ prefix, so Home becomes @Home. Areas always come before Contexts, here and on Clarify and the item screens.

Second, do a mind sweep. If you are coming from Nirvana, you can import instead. If you already finished a mind sweep, Setup shows this step as done and says why.

When you have finished Setup, it shows links to manage your Areas and Contexts any time you want to change them.

Hiding Welcome and Setup

Welcome hides itself from the menu once you have finished Setup. You can bring it back in Preferences. Setup has a link to hide it too. Either page still works if you go back to it.
